Why Texting While Driving is bad?
It is bad to text or even glance at your phone while driving. It is dangerous to even look at your phone not just for you but for other people too. When you are driving, even the slightest glance at your phone or your personal device might hurt you, someone else or everyone around you and can possibly kill someone.
You should never do this and you should never put anyone’s life in danger or your own. The only time you are allowed to look at your phone/personal device on the road is when you either pull over or if you are not driving. These are all the reasons why you should never text/look at your phone while driving. |
What We Think of It?
Typing on the phone or taking your eyes off the road to glance or read your phone while driving is dangerous.
"Texting drivers took their eyes off the road for each text an average of 4.6 seconds -- which at 55 mph, means they were driving the length of a football field without looking", said David Hosansky, author of CQ Researcher's Distracted Driving. Reading an average message takes 1-2 seconds.
8/10 auto accidents in Virginia is caused by distracted drivers. In Ashburn there was one accident where a cyclist got killed while on the dominion trail in 2015.
In 2016 there was also one accident where a car had slammed into another. One person was killed 6 were injured. |

Tips to keep your eyes on the road from LCSO
Loudoun County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) would like to help you keep that new year resolution. Here are 5 tips to keep your eyes on the road and your head out of your Apps:
1. When you get into the car put your phone out of reach, turning the screen around, or just shutting it off (yes, phones do have “off” buttons). Your text or call CAN wait until you stop in a safe place. It is ok to call or text back later, "Sorry, I was driving." Trust us, they'll understand. 2. Set up your GPS route before leaving, find your EZ-Pass or money for tolls, and make sure to secure your cup of coffee or bottled water in the cup holder. Doing these simple steps will prevent you from searching around and taking your eyes off of the road. 3. If there are two or more persons in the car, designate a texter. Passengers can text safely while the car is in motion. Let your passengers do some of the work. That's what they are there for! 4. Everyone needs a Zen moment; make yours while you're driving. Focus on driving and make this time your quiet time. This will also make it easier to concentrate on merging or finding that next exit. 5. Need even more motivation? Texting is banned for all drivers in Virginia. In fact, it is considered a primary offense, which means law enforcement will pull you over if they suspect you of texting while driving. The fine is $125 for the first offense, and $250 for subsequent offenses. Do you really have something to say that's worth that much money? (Code of Virginia 46.2-1078.1) |

About Us
Were an organization with one goal to stop the increasingly big issue of distracted driving. Nearly 20 percent of drivers on Interstate 95 in Virginia confess to texting while driving, according to a news report from AAA.Those numbers seem to translate into another upsetting statistic: Eight out of 10 traffic accidents in the Commonwealth are related to distracted driving. We want to help decrease those numbers, and make our community safe!
